The Price of Happiness

Ever ask yourself “How did I get here? This isn’t what I expected my life to be!” So many of us end up lost in life, struggling to get by day by day and not knowing where we lost our way. We remember a dream long ago of what we envisioned for ourselves and beat ourselves up for straying from that path. There are so many things we tell ourselves don’t we? “I have a well paying job, I have kids that depend on me, I am healthy, what more is there in life?” We are afraid of asking for too much. All of these small gifts that have been given to us are minor if we don’t have happiness to go along with it. We have to realize that we deserve more than mediocre.

Happiness is a choice. If there is something in your life that is preventing happiness, change it. Look for another job that you are passionate about, find friends that lift you up and encourage you,  find hobbies that fulfil you. Admittedly not all will be easy to change and at this point I must ask you to weigh the situation. How much are you willing to sacrifice for your own happiness? What is your happiness worth to you?

As men and women we struggle to find our place in the world, and I am finding that we have begun to break the moulds of the past that confine us as human beings.  Once we step out from behind the definitions we have set up for ourselves of partner, parent, friend, and lover we can start to find out who we truly are without the labels. This also brings happiness, when we let go of who we “think” we are and step into who we are.

What is your happiness worth to you?
