Many of us are on a path of self growth and development, but the road laid out for us is not easy. The journey may be a little bumpy at times, but the end result is rewarding. It means digging deep to find out who you really are, finding those activities that inspire you, getting rid of past harboured emotions. Growth and development means all levels physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
The first and most important step is finding out who you truly are. As human beings, we tend to lose ourselves in relationships, in our jobs, in life. What is it that motivates you? What are your passionate about? Sometimes these questions are difficult to answer right away and a great deal of soul-searching is needed. Here is my suggestion, take classes that interest you, preferably ones that are new. Take time for yourself when you can, go for a walk once a week, or join a yoga class, sit down and write in a journal. We never seen to take enough time for ourselves in the course of a busy week. Excuses are always made, but it is during this time that you will start to discover who you truly are.
Act upon your self discoveries. Once you find your motivation or passion, continue to nurture it. It may not be something you are capable of doing on a daily basis but find time each week to do what you are passionate about. It is in those moments you will find joy. Bringing in joy is a huge factor in self-development. Too many of us get caught up in the routine of life that we forget to stop and take time for ourselves. We must remember that our mood can affect others so why not be as happy and as joyful as we can?
I think the hardest part of self growth and development is learning to let go. It is so easy to hang on to the past and stay angry at the people who have wronged us. But it is essential if we are to become the best we can be. Holding on to past emotions keeps our thoughts in the past. If we are continually thinking about past wrongs, how can we possibly move forward? Remember, forgiveness doesn’t mean you condone what has been done, but allows a certain freedom of the soul. Learn to let go.
Last of all, read. Find books that interest you, books that specifically talk about those areas in your life you want to change. Get as much information as you can, and develop you own opinions on the matter. Remember knowledge is power. You can’t begin the journey of self-improvement until you find out who you are.
